Department of Physiological and Behavioural Mechanisms of Adaptation

In charge of studying the mechanisms relating to the adaptation of living beings in their environment.

The DMPCA focuses on studying these adaptation phenomena from a multidisciplinary angle, starting from the molecules involved to the observable behaviours they generate to enable the individual to adapt to their environment. To adapt to one's environment and to the other living beings that make up it, it is first of all necessary to understand them well and communicate with them. This is why one of the areas of research of the DMPCA is concerned with the mechanisms of action of semiochemicals and in particular the role of the different molecular mediators of chemical communication, both in terms of the perception of semiochemicals and the transduction of these signals within living organisms, with the identification of hormonal effectors responsible for behavioural changes. The adaptation of an individual to his or her environment is also the necessary prerequisite for the development of a state of welfare.

The DMPCA is therefore also working on research projects studying animal welfare, from the development of new measurement methods to the study of the impact of rearing and working processes, to the improvement of it through the use of semiochemicals in particular.
